Surely you're not going to fault me if I suggest that something seemed fishy from near the start what with all the concern about chapped lips. Still, you have to find a "hook" to get your story moving any way you can.
The middle part with Darla not giving up about getting her older sibling to accompany her to the mall was nicely done.
But the sneaky part (the best part?) was when Darla excused herself from the snack the girls were having at the mall to go over to the shop and give the old man there her heartfelt thanks.
