Story Notes:

This is a flash rework of a drabble I wrote two Easter's ago.

An appropriate day to begin her RLE.

In the mirror, a young woman in a green floral-print dress, nervously smoothes the skirt over her narrow hips, yet again. She picks an invisible speck of lint from her collar.

“You ready for this?” she asks.

She dons her hat – a surprising present from her mother after their turmoil during the past year. But the traditional gift for this day, mother to daughter, bespeaks acceptance, if not yet understanding.

A horn beeps: her mom out front with a ride to church.

One last check in the mirror – adjust the hat.

Clutching her purse, she takes a deep breath, lets it out with an affirming, “You go girl!” and opens the door to a new day, a new life.
